Christopher Hogwood

Open Letters Monthly mourns the death of renowned musicologist and conductor Christopher Hogwood, the founder of the Academy of Ancient christopher hogwoodMusic and for fifteen years the Artistic Director of Boston's venerable Handel and Haydn Society. He was an enthusiastic storyteller, a glutton for good company, a voracious reader, and a pioneer of the period instrument movement in the playing of Baroque and Classical music. That music is his legacy, and like it, he was poised and precise and infinitely consoling. He will be deeply missed.
