Thomas Berger

Open Letters Monthly mourns the death of great American novelist Thomas Berger, author of dozens of bitingly intelligent and inventive thomas bergernovels, including his playful Arthurian pastiche Arthur Rex, his devastating autopsy of suburbia, Neighbors, his quietly terrifying Meeting Evil, and of course his Rabelaisian masterpiece, Little Big Man. When asked by a fan what his favorite adverb was, the notoriously wry author quipped, "posthumously." Here's hoping it does wonders for him.
